Indications

Cekamol 500 mg Tablet is indicated for the relief of mild to moderate pain and fever, including:

  • Headache, Migraine
  • Toothache, sore throat
  • Muscle, joint and nerve pain
  • Backache , period pain and general aches and pain
  • Pain associated with cold and flu
  • Fever of various origins

Dosage and Administration

Adults and adolescents (≥12 years):

  • 500–1000 mg every 4–6 hours as needed
  • Maximum daily dose: 4,000 mg (2g to4 g per day)

Children:

Aged 12-16 years: 480mg-750mg required after 4-6 hours. Maximum 4 dose during a day.

Aged 10-12 years: 480mg-500mg required after 4-6 hours. Maximum 4 doses during a day.

  • Dose based on body weight and age, as advised by a physician

Administration Instructions:

  • Swallow with water
  • Can be taken with or without food
  • Do not exceed the recommended dose

Miss Dose:

If you Forgot to take the dose donot take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

Over Dose:

Immediate medical advise should be sought in the event of an overdose , even if your chil seems well because of the risk of the delayed, serious liver damage. Phone your doctor or go to the nearest emergency Hospital or clinical facility.

There may be no symptoms during the first 24 hours although paleness, nausea (feeling sick), vomiting (being sick) and abdominal pain may be occur.

Mechanism of Action (MOA)

Paracetamol produces analgesic and antipyretic effects by:

  • Inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system
  • Acting on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center to reduce fever
  • Providing pain relief without significant anti-inflammatory activity

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any component of the tablet
  • Severe hepatic impairment or active liver disease
  • Chronic excessive alcohol consumption

Warnings and Precautions

  • Do not exceed the recommended dose; overdose can cause serious liver damage
  • Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease
  • Avoid simultaneous use of other paracetamol-containing products
  • Alcohol consumption should be avoided during treatment
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking any of these medicines Barbiturates, TCA’s , Colestyramine, warfarin, zidovudine, Domperidone, Anticonvulsants, Oral contraceptive “the Pills”
  • If you are pregnant ,planning to become pregnant or breatfeeding , talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine. If necessary , it can be used during pregnancy but you should use lowest possible dose to reduce pain or fever for the shortest time possible, contact your doctor if pain and fever persist or you need to take the medicine more often.

Adverse Reactions / Side Effects

Common (rare at therapeutic doses):

  • Nausea
  • Mild skin rash

Rare but serious:

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling, flaky skin, sore lips and mouth, difficulty breathing sudden wheezing ,fluttering or tightness of the chest or collapse)
  • Liver toxicity with overdose or prolonged high-dose use

Severe Reactions:

Bruising more easily sore throat or other signs of infection (these may be signs of blood disorder)

Severe pain in the abdomen and back, with fever (high tempreture), loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting (these may be sign of pancrese inflammation)

Very rare cases of serious skin reaction have been reported.

Handling Side Effects:

  • Stop medication and seek medical advice if signs of allergy occur
  • In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention, even if symptoms are mild

Drug Interactions

  • Chronic alcohol use increases risk of liver toxicity
  • Enzyme-inducing drugs (e.g., rifampicin, carbamazepine) may increase hepatotoxicity
  • Use cautiously with warfarin during prolonged therapy

Storage

  • Store below 30°C
  • Protect from moisture and light
  • Keep out of reach of children
