Dosage and Administration

  • Shake the bottle well before use.
  • Measure the dose using a calibrated measuring spoon or cup.

Recommended Dosage

  • Infants (6 months – 1 year): 5 mg elemental zinc once daily
  • Children (1 – 6 years): 10 mg elemental zinc once daily
  • Children (>6 years) and Adults: 20 mg elemental zinc once daily

Therapeutic dose for Acute Diarrhea together with Reduced osmolarity ORS

  • Age Group:

Orally , once daily during an acute diarrhea episode . Take for 10-14 days even when                    diarrhea has already stopped.

  • Under 6 months:

2.5 ml or Half teaspoonful

  • 6 months and older:

5ml or 1 teaspoon.

Dosage may vary depending on clinical condition, age, nutritional status, and physician’s advice.

Note: Do not exceed the recommended dose. Can be taken with or without food.

Mechanism of Action (MOA)

  • Zinc is an essential trace element involved in numerous enzyme functions, immune response, cell growth, and wound healing.
  • Zinc supplementation restores zinc deficiency, supports immune system function, and may reduce the duration and severity of diarrhea in children.

Indications

  • Treatment and prevention of zinc deficiency
  • Supportive therapy in acute and chronic diarrhea in children
  • Growth support in children with malnutrition or poor appetite
  • Adjunct in wound healing and immune support
  • Helps in Natural defense against damaging free radicals (antioxidants effect) and helps boost immune function.
  • Zinc helps inability of cells to properly replicate DNA which require cells to multiply thus needed for normal growth.  

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to zinc or any component of the formulation
  • Patients with Wilson’s disease or other copper metabolism disorders (consult physician)

Warnings and Precautions

  • Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
  • Long-term high-dose zinc may interfere with copper absorption
  • Store out of reach of children to prevent accidental overdose
  • Consult a doctor before use in pregnant or lactating women
  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose

Adverse Drug Reactions (ADR) / Side Effects

Common / Mild

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Metallic taste in the mouth

Uncommon / Rare

  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Rash or itching

Severe / Very Rare

  • Allergic reactions (swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Zinc toxicity if high doses are taken accidentally

Handling Side Effects

  • Mild effects are usually self-limiting.
  • Take the syrup with food to reduce gastrointestinal upset.
  • Persistent or severe symptoms require medical consultation.
  • In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Storage

  • Store below 25°C
  • Protect from light and moisture
  • Shake well before use
  • Keep out of reach of children
